verbosity

Kudos have to go to the Guardian’s film critic, Peter Bradshaw, for his review of Into the Blue, simply for the fact that he manages to use the words ‘babeissimo’ (Jessica Alba) and ‘pulchritudinous’ (Paul Walker) in one paragraph and still sound vaguely credible. Who’d have thought it were possible?

meme whore

Swiped shamelessly in a bored hour from a probably now stale meme (I always was late in catching these things) over at troubled diva, my frequent surroundings when at home.

Study

  1. Webcam. Since I got the flatscreen monitor, the cam’s perched precariously on top of it. If I type particularly animatedly, it wobbles and falls off. Generally it faces the wall. I’m paranoid like that.
  2. iPod mini. Blue. It’s about 7 months old, and has around 800 songs on it. One of my favourite gadgets.
  3. Curtains. They’re always closed. Some might say that makes me a recluse, which is probably true, but they also keep the glare off my screen.
  4. A print out of the itinerary for my forthcoming trip to America.
  5. Photo printer. Brand new, full colour, very nice.
  6. Phones. One cordless, one mobile.
  7. Lemsip max capsules. Helped me get over the mild cold I had last week.
  8. Cordless keyboard and mouse. The keyboard has a lot of hot keys that you can program to do things like play music or open folders. I just use the mouse. Not all funky time saving ideas are actually that useful.
  9. DVDs. Roughly half of my collection. The others live to the side, or downstairs by the DVD player because I haven’t stored them away. What you can’t see in this picture are the masses of videos (approx 120 of them) on the bookshelves to the right.
  10. Music CDs. All the songs from them that I want to listen to are now burned onto my iPod.
  11. Hoodie. Birthday present. I live in it when I’m relaxing at home.
  12. Computer. Almost brand new, bought through the Home Computer Initiative at work a couple of months ago. It’s teeny, and very cute.
  13. Laser printer. Mono. Companion to the colour photo printer.
  14. Chair. Very comfortable, and a vast, vast improvement on the wooden stool I used prior to getting this.

The rest of the room (which isn’t much, as it’s just a study/boxroom) is taken up by books and things I should probably throw out, like boxes and bits of paper. I’ll probably get round to it eventually, but the room is very much a me place, and I guess you could charitably call it ‘lived in’.

night shots

One of the presents I got for my birthday last month was a camera tripod from my sister and her other half. I’ve not really had a chance to use it, apart from taking some moon shots, but it’s been throwing it down with rain all night, and I wanted to see if I could get any interesting pictures in combination with long exposures. I wasn’t sure what (if anything) I was going to end up with, but I quite like these two shots. They are a little grainy, particularly at hi-res, but I like how the colour came out - a result of the low cloud cover and bright orange streetlights.
